The Purpose Of A Background Check
There are numerous types of searches used for a background check, with some more commonly used than others. One of the most
popular ones to be used by potential employers is that of a criminal history background check. This type of check can provide county,
state, and federal records for both felonies and misdemeanors.
Releases may be required for a criminal background check, which means the applicant must give written permission for the check. A
Police record check is usually available together with recent arrest warrants.
Another one that is extremely popular with certain types of employers is that of a credit report. This is normally done for
potential employees who would have access to cash, financial records, or very expensive equipment.
The following providers have excellent service if you are doing a BACKGROUND CHECK on an individual or
company. Phone and online support is available. Free search... no find, no fee.

Other Background Checks
Probably the next two commonly used types of searches done for a background check would be that of a personal and
employment check or degree verifications. With a personal reference check, the employer can learn about the applicant’s
dependability and their positive qualities.
Such a background check normally come back with a positive result, as the applicant would only put
down people who are friends, which would be willing to talk them up. An employment background check may give a more honest
opinion of the applicant’s behavior such as previous attendance, disciplinary actions, and whether or not that company would consider them
eligible for rehire.
As the last four background check types are the most common, there are still many others that
can be used depending on the individual employer and the type of work the potential employee would be doing.
There is also workers’ compensation history, motor vehicle records, education references,
credentials and licenses checks, and a sex offender registry check.
These different background checks could be used if the person will be a truck driver,
working closely with children, and so on. All in all, a background check is pretty much a requirement anywhere one goes to seek employment, as
they want to be protected as a company. There is also the concern for current employees and customers to be protected from possible
harm.
Facts On Why It’s Needed
While some people assume that it is okay to be slightly misleading in your application or resume, the employers do not and
there are valid reasons for their need of a background check. It has been stated that approximately 30% of potential employees lie about
their educational background.
If they find this out to be true on a certain applicant, they have to wonder what else they would lie about. Not to mention that
the person may not have enough knowledge in the field that they are applying for, which in turn can cost the company more money then they
would like.
A background check will also show if someone has a felony record. One would assume that an applicant would be upfront about such a
record in fear that a background check would show their record, but it has been seen that about seven out of one hundred applicants have a
criminal record that they failed to mention.
If this is a record because of violence, employers must be aware of this to prevent a terrible situation from happening at the
work place such as fights and the harassment of another employee or even customers. This one check could not only save the company a lot of
money but maybe even someone’s life.
A Background check may also be
performed just for the sole purpose of making sure that they are not hiring an illegal alien. While it is not a matter of being against hiring
people from other countries, it is the fact that companies can be fined up to $10,000 by the government if found that an employee is not
legal.
This can happen whether the employer hired them knowing their immigration
status or not. These types of fines, along with the fact that employee theft is the cause of 30% of business failures, are why business owners
tend to push for a background check.
